The University Blockchain Conference lands at the University of Texas at Austin on 20–21 November 2026 under a new name but an old mission: put the students crypto wants to hire directly in front of the companies doing the hiring.
Student-built, student-run, priced like it
UBC is produced by college.xyz, a student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and the economics show it. Early-bird tickets cost $25 for industry attendees and $10 for students — who get the $10 reimbursed anyway. The organisers are upfront about why they charge anything at all: a small fee filters for people who actually intend to show up, and helps them plan. At the time of writing, 136 people had registered, with the bulk of sign-ups presumably still ahead as November approaches.
More striking than ticket prices is the travel policy. Students apply for a subsidy through a simple form, requests are approved case by case, and the team states plainly that it aims to subsidise every student who travels to Austin for the conference. For a student-run organisation, committing to that is a real statement about who the event exists to serve.
From Ann Arbor roots to a hundred campuses
This conference began life as the Midwest Blockchain Conference, born in Ann Arbor, and has since grown into a national movement spanning more than 100 universities — including programmes in South America and Europe. The rebrand to UBC signals the widened map; the organisers describe it as a new name and new home with the same mission, built by students for students and pulling together university clubs, high schools, alumni and industry leaders.
The new home matters too. UT Austin hosts the 2026 edition at 2515 Speedway, and the university brings genuine credentials: a national leader in engineering, finance and entrepreneurship, sitting in one of America's fastest-growing tech cities, with Texas Blockchain as the campus club anchoring the effort. That combination of institutional weight and student energy is the whole thesis of the event in one address.
What two days in November pack in
The programme promises speakers drawn from both industry and government, a major hackathon, a research competition, heavy networking time and sizeable side events — plus, in the organisers' own words, fire merch. The stated ambition is to surpass every prior year on every dimension: more speakers, more sponsors, more opportunities. Dozens of hiring companies and investors eager to write early cheques are expected across the two days.
For industry professionals the pitch runs the other direction. UBC offers exposure to more than 1,000 ambitious students and dozens of elite university programmes that are traditionally difficult to reach — a recruiting funnel and a user base in the same hall. A track record you can check
The strongest argument for attending is retrospective: past attendees have landed roles at Coinbase, Circle, Gemini, Galaxy and Polymarket, among other blockchain, fintech and policy employers. That list is the difference between a conference that claims career outcomes and one that can name them.
