Stellar, developed since 2014 by the Stellar Development Foundation founded by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim with Professor David Mazières in San Francisco, is an open network for cross-border payments and asset tokenization using the Stellar Consensus Protocol. Anchors issue stablecoins and tokens settled in seconds for fractions of a cent, used by MoneyGram, Franklin Templeton and humanitarian aid programs for fast disbursements. The Foundation, a nonprofit, stewards protocol development and ecosystem grants without a for-profit token sale and maintains the codebase with community validators. Headquartered in San Francisco at Brannan Street with a distributed global team, Stellar emphasizes financial inclusion, low-cost settlement and building bridges between traditional rails and on-chain networks for everyday transfers worldwide. The network continues to expand anchor partnerships and tooling for developers globally.
