At Brevan Howard, we build systematic and discretionary investment processes that rely on rigorous analysis of a vast universe of data, such as asset prices, macroeconomic indicators, news, sell-side research, and trading signals. Transforming this data into actionable insights is central to how we win, and we're looking to find the next generation of portfolio managers and quants through our internship program - people who are eager to push the frontier of research and engineering in global macro investing.

This is a highly selective, 10-week internship with Brevan Howard Macro Ventures (BHMV), the world's first macro venture fund - a new investment category uniting macroeconomic and geostrategic analysis with deep-technology investing. We back companies where scientific breakthrough meets national consequence - in energy, artificial intelligence, space, quantum computing and agricultural technology. The thesis is direct. Technology has become the primary axis of geopolitical competition, and the defining companies of this era will be those positioned along the great macro currents: the energy transition, compute sovereignty, orbital infrastructure, defense and food security, to name a few.

Identifying them requires technical depth and macro judgement in equal measure: we begin with structural shifts - where policy, demand, capital and strategic necessity converge - and then work from the bottom up, testing the science, the engineering and the business. Neither a compelling macro narrative nor an elegant laboratory result is sufficient on its own.

Team members have been involved in ventures that redefined access to orbit, the path to fusion power and global compute. Our ambition is to finance the technologies on which the next chapter of civilization depends, and to identify them before their significance becomes consensus.

That work demands two qualities that rarely coincide: the rigor to be right and the imagination to be early. Large language models have made analysis abundant and imagination decisive - provided it is matched by the discipline to test, verify and revise.

An exceptional transcript should be the starting point, not the most interesting thing about you. We are interested in the question you could not leave alone, the model you built to test it, the connection you made that your discipline did not teach you to see. A genuine interest in investing and the commercial consequences of scientific progress is essential.

You will join the investment team in New York, working directly with BHMV's partners and Founding Chief Scientist on live situations: interrogating technical claims, mapping industries, assessing startups, analyzing financials and identifying investment prospects. The questions extend beyond whether a technology works. What does it cost at scale? What bottleneck does it remove or create? Why is now the right moment? Who ultimately captures the value? You will be expected to connect technical evidence to an investment judgement, not simply describe a technology.

The program opens with Brevan Howard's one-week training in financial markets and programming: at BHMV, the macro half of the job is not optional. On-the-job training in venture capital follows, with a mentor program, talks, and interaction with the founders, scientists and macro investors who shape these fields.

The internship is a two-way process: we are assessing you, and you should be assessing us. Its purpose is to find the people we will hire, by converting top-performing interns to our 2028 Graduate Program.

Qualifications & Requirements

A penultimate-year undergraduate or first-year master's student completed and awarded before July 2028.

Studying for a bachelor's or master's in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Finance, Economics or another technical discipline.

Evidence of original thought - a project, paper, prototype, company or argument that did not exist until you made it.

The depth to take a technical claim apart from first principles, and the judgment to decide whether it matters.

Prior experience through research, independent projects, startups or internships; finance experience is welcome but not required.

Fluency in programming and financial modeling, including Excel, and the judgment to use AI tools critically.

The self-direction to own a question end to end in a small team, and the humility to be corrected and held to the highest standard.

Precision, discretion and professionalism: our work touches companies of national consequence and is treated accordingly.

An entrepreneurial spirit.

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Perks & Compensation

Compensation for this internship is based on an annualized salary of $150,000, prorated for the 10-week duration of the program. All interns also receive a housing stipend and an internship completion bonus.
