Our Ethos
We believe in an open and flat structure. You will be able to grow into the role that most aligns with your goals.
The Role
Day-to-day scope for the Compliance Engineer as described in the posting:
We’re looking for a Compliance Engineering Specialist to bridge the gap between our regulatory obligations and our technical systems. You’ll work closely with Legal, Compliance, and Engineering to ensure that Rain’s platform meets its obligations under AML, KYC, BSA, and related financial regulations — and that those requirements are correctly embedded in how we build and operate our products.
What You’ll Do
Day-to-day scope for the Compliance Engineer as described in the posting:
- Translate regulatory requirements (AML, KYC, BSA, FinCEN, OFAC, and others) into clear technical specifications for engineering teams.
- Partner with product and engineering to design, build, and maintain compliance-related systems and controls, including transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and customer due diligence workflows.
- Review technical implementations for regulatory gaps, and own remediation efforts when gaps are identified.
- Develop and maintain compliance analytics, data quality controls, data reconciliation processes to support monitoring, regulatory reporting, and audit readiness.
- Serve as the technical subject-matter expert during regulatory exams, audits, and third-party assessments.
- Stay current on evolving regulatory requirements in the US and key international markets, and proactively surface changes that require engineering action.
- Write and maintain technical compliance documentation, runbooks, and policies.
- Support SARs, CTRs, and other regulatory reporting workflows from a systems and data integrity standpoint.
You will likely be successful if you have
- 3–5+ years of experience in compliance engineering, fintech compliance, or a similar technical compliance role.
- Working knowledge of US financial regulations: BSA, AML, KYC, OFAC sanctions, and FinCEN requirements.
- Hands-on experience with transaction monitoring systems, identity verification workflows, or watchlist screening tools.
- Ability to read and reason about code (Python, SQL, or similar) — you don’t need to be a full-stack engineer, but you need to hold your own in technical conversations.
- Experience translating regulatory language into technical requirements or acceptance criteria.
- Strong written communication skills; you can write clearly for both engineering audiences and regulators.
- Experience using SQL, data analytics, and reconciliation techniques to validate compliance controls, investigate anomalies, and support regulatory reporting.
Bonus Attributes
Additional experience noted as a plus:
- Experience in crypto, digital assets, or payments compliance.
- Familiarity with international AML frameworks (FATF, EU AMLD, etc.).
- CAMS, CFE, or similar compliance certification.
- Prior work supporting regulatory exams or external audits in a technical capacity.
