Canton Strategic Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNTN) said on Nov. 4 that it had completed the first trades of its issuer-sponsored tokenized common stock on TSV LLC, a permissioned venue for tokenized National Market System stocks on the Canton Network. The company called them the first trades of their kind under the SEC's Innovation Exemption, the conditional relief the commission issued on Sept. 17 for venues trading tokenized U.S. stocks through permissioned automated market maker pools.
The release names the counterparties. Five North, an existing shareholder, sold; DRW Cumberland bought; Flowdesk Liquidity Solutions LLC supplied liquidity. The trades executed on Nov. 4 through a permissioned pool on Tradecraft, the automated market maker protocol that powers TSV, and settled atomically on the Canton Network. Fairmint TA LLC, the company's SEC-registered transfer agent, recorded the shares in token form and keeps the official onchain record of ownership.
Five North asked that its CNTN holdings be registered in tokenized form first. Fairmint recorded the shares directly into the shareholder's verified Loop Wallet, moving the position out of a broker-dealer account and onto the company's onchain register. TSV then set up a pool among liquidity providers that included Flowdesk and DRW Cumberland, where Flowdesk provided liquidity and DRW Cumberland executed the first purchases.
"Last week we set out to be the first tokenized U.S. equity traded under the SEC's new framework. Today, the first trades are done," Chairman and CEO Mark Wendland said in the release. He said the Canton Network's privacy shields shareholders from "MEV frontrunning and information leakage common on other public chains." The release does not present comparative data behind that claim.
TSV co-founder Ryan Trinkle said the token "carries the same rights as the CNTN stock that trades on Nasdaq." Fairmint CEO Joris Delanoue described the transfer agent's role in plainer terms: "A blockchain can settle a trade, but it takes an accountable transfer agent to say who legally owns the share." Only holders whose identities and wallets Fairmint has verified and approved can hold or trade the shares, with identity verification and sanctions screening required before they can transfer them.
Canton Strategic rebranded from Tharimmune in February 2026, after shifting its strategy toward digital asset treasury operations, Crypto Briefing reported. The company operates as a Super Validator on the Canton Network and holds membership in the Canton Foundation, and it said in its October filing that it was the first publicly traded company to use Canton Coin to support the Canton Network.
Neither share counts nor execution prices came from the company. Canton Strategic did not disclose the number of shares traded, their prices or the total transaction value, crypto.news reported. Crypto Briefing put the first trade at about 14,461 shares for roughly $30,296, or about $2.08 per share.
The exemption predates the trades by about seven weeks. The SEC's Sept. 17 order grants temporary, conditional relief from the definition of "exchange" so that qualified tokenized securities venues can trade tokenized NMS stock through permissioned AMM liquidity pools; Chairman Paul Atkins said the relief would allow those venues to trade "in a permissioned environment today while the Commission considers the need for additional action." TSV submitted its notice to the SEC on Sept. 23, according to crypto.news, and the commission states that inclusion on its public list does not establish that every condition of the exemption has been met. The relief runs five years, expiring on Sept. 17, 2031, Crypto Briefing reported.
The issuer-sponsored structure is what sets these trades apart from other tokenized stock programs. Because the company put its own shares on-chain, it avoided the 30-day notice-and-objection process that applies to third-party tokenization. A separate arrangement involving Securitize already gives eligible investors access to shares represented on Solana, but that structure uses security entitlements rather than issuer-registered shares recorded by a transfer agent, crypto.news noted.
Trading on the venue runs around the clock subject to required trading halts, maintenance, risk controls and volume limits, and tokenized trading must stop when the underlying stock is halted on its primary exchange. The trades followed the company's Oct. 29 filing, in which it said trading was expected to begin as early as Monday, Nov. 2.
