As Senior Counsel, you will join an experienced and collaborative Legal team to work on market and derivative related transaction matters. You’ll work alongside and report into our Head of Trading Legal and have the opportunity to work on a myriad of legal issues with room for growth beyond the current scope of the role.

What You’ll Do

Day-to-day scope for the Markets & Derivatives Senior Counsel as described in the posting:

  • Act as a strategic legal advisor for Galaxy with respect to ISDAs/ CSAs, confirms, prime brokerage agreements, lending and vendor transactions;
  • Advisor on swap dealer related rules
  • Focus on negotiating documentation with hedge funds, crypto native firms, investment companies, individuals, miners and other institutional clients
  • Coordinate resources with respect to negotiations, including management of outside counsel engagement where appropriate;
  • Collaborate with other functional partners and businesses to ensure appropriate awareness and escalation of issues;
  • Assisting with implementing global regulatory and market changes affecting trading and documentation
  • Draft and negotiate non-disclosure agreements;
  • Manage workflow in a highly dynamic and demanding environment while remaining highly responsive, reliable, communicative, and accountable to team leadership and other members of Galaxy; and
  • Help with other special projects and such other activities as may be assigned.
  • Embrace and champion the thoughtful adoption of AI to improve team performance and business outcomes.
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., generative AI, automation platforms, data copilots) to improve productivity, decision-making, and output quality in your day-to-day work.

What We’re Looking For

  • The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have meticulous attention to detail and a demonstrable ability to produce quality work product in a fast-paced, high-volume environment;
  • Ability to apply traditional financial legal concepts within the crypto space to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and uncommon
  • Over 6+ years of transactional experience reviewing various financial transaction agreements, primarily ISDA/CSAs, trade confirmations and prime brokerage agreements
  • Product knowledge and transactional or regulatory experience within the OTC derivatives and swap dealer businesses.
  • Experience traditional financial markets, preferable experience at a sell side bank supporting derivative desks
  • Ability to work well in fast-paced business and evolving legal environment and to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Highly motivated, self-starter who takes initiative;
  • Positive attitude, and willingness to roll up sleeves (no job too big, no job too small);
  • Ability to think creatively and propose commercially pragmatic solutions;
  • Collaborative team member with a high level of professionalism and business judgment;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; and
  • Active membership in the NY state bar.

Additional experience noted as a plus:

  • Knowledge of the regulatory treatment of digital assets
  • Ability to negotiate, and document various technology agreements, procurement and vendor contracts, which includes agreements pertaining to software (on prem and SaaS/cloud), outsourcing, hardware, systems, facilities, and professional/consulting services; and various other vendor commercial agreements to support services integral to the Galaxy ecosystem
  • Minimum of 2+ years at a top tier law firm

The base salary ranges included below will be commensurate with candidate experience, expertise and local market. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise.

Base Salary Range

$200,000—$250,000 USD
