Key Responsibilities
We are seeking a Finance & Strategy Manager to join Block's Business Strategic Finance team, supporting our largest strategic commercial partnerships. You'll partner with Financial Operations, Product, Data Science, and Legal to shape the commercial agreements that underpin Square, Cash App, and Afterpay, spanning payment networks, banks, and processors. Your work will directly influence how Block negotiates, prices, and forecasts the costs that flow through every transaction we process. You'll report to a Finance & Strategy Lead within Block's Business Strategic Finance team.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role. You'll shape Block's approach to its most important partners, lead the modeling behind high-stakes negotiations, and own the forecast for one of Block's largest cost lines. Success requires deep analytical rigor, intellectual curiosity, the ability to navigate ambiguity, and the confidence to drive change even when playbooks don't yet exist.
Candidates can sit in any Block office in the US or be remote from any US state with the exception of Alaska.
You Will
- Act as the key Strategic Finance partner for Block's commercial partnership portfolio, owning the financial and strategic narrative for how we manage these relationships and where we take them next.
- Develop Block's point of view on where value sits across our partner relationships, drawing on market trends, competitive intelligence, and internal data to shape what we should be negotiating for and when.
- Lead the financial modeling and deal advisory behind major partner negotiations (pricing tiers, volume commitments, incentive mechanics), from initial framing through term sheet to signed agreement.
- Forecast variable costs across brands, and explain the drivers behind volume and mix shifts that move the rate we pay.
- Drive cross-functional strategic projects (Financial Operations, Product, Data Science, Legal, Accounting) from problem framing through recommendation and execution.
- Distill complex findings into concise narratives and visualizations for executive-level decisions.
- Champion rigorous analytics, building dashboards, SQL queries, and automated reporting to surface insights at scale.
You Have
- 5+ years in investment banking, private equity, strategic or corporate finance, or management consulting (tech or financial-services focus is a plus)
- Experience building the financial analysis behind a commercial negotiation, contract, or partnership, including modeling deal structures and pricing mechanics, and translating signed terms into a forecast.
- Demonstrated intellectual curiosity: you probe beneath the surface and connect seemingly disparate data to form a strategic point of view.
- Ability to build a point of view from incomplete information: reading market and competitive signals, forming a recommendation, and defending it with senior stakeholders.
- Mastery of Excel / Google Sheets and comfort with SQL and modern AI-assisted analytics tools.
- Track record of owning work end to end, from an ambiguous starting question through to decision-making.
- Experience leading projects with multiple cross-functional partners in fast-paced environments.
- Passion for Block's broader purpose of Economic Empowerment and a commitment to building inclusive financial products.
